5 Black Lesbian Books You Should Read in August 2024

August kinda feels like the end of summer and the beginning of fall. Ignore the fact that it’s still 103 degrees in Dallas right now. And that the fall equinox isn’t until the end of September. Growing up, August meant the end of summer break which basically meant it was fall.

(This is my blog and time is made up anyways, so we will count the seasons based on anecdotal feelings that still linger from being brainwashed by the United States education system)

Either way, you should check out one (or all) of these Black Sapphic books that are giving fall vibes, sweater weather, and just plain cozy.

Just Like Her by Fiona Zedde

This is the third book in the Like Her Trilogy, which features two of my all-time favorite books: Femme Like Her and Stud Like Her. This later-in-life lesbian romance is equally amazing, featuring the story of Delphine, a forty-year old woman who considers herself to be asexual until she meets someone who makes her question everything about herself.

Fall Into You by Georgina Kiersten

I don’t know any book that gives more fall vibes than Fall into You. A cozy small town autumn romance with a butch-femme couple that will make your heart sing. I’ve personally read it 5X (at least) and I think everyone else should consider making it their newest comfort read, too.

Love From The Sidelines by Tuesday Harper

What I like about fall is football.

Love From The Sidelines is a sapphic sports romance set in a small town. It’s Friday Night Light, except I’ve never seen the movie or the show. Maybe that’s why there’s equal parts football and lesbian sex.

No Shelter But The Stars by Virginia Black

This book was so good that I was a little upset when it ended. I could have taken another trip around the galaxy with these characters. The connection they shared was sweet and genuine. And best of all this story reminded me how much I love Science Fiction.

Things Left Unsaid by Lily S. Flowers

A cute and cozy read that paired perfectly with a glass of sweet red and my wine-osaurus rex fuzzy socks. Sure, that’s not a vibe that’s uniquely autumnal but it was the vibe. And the book was so good that I have Lily S. Flowers’ entire catalogue stacked in my TBR pile.

Whether you’re gearing up for sweater weather or still trying to beat the heat, these titles can be your perfect book companions this month. Grab your favorite cozy blanket. Pour yourself a fun little drink. Support these talented Black LGBTQ+ authors by picking up one of these titles or checking out one of the over 250+ books on The List of Black WLW Books.
